Celebrate Fall in Wilmington DE and Pennsylvania with These Events!

In just a few days, it will officially be the start of a new season in Wilmington DE and Southeastern Pennsylvania and aside from cooler temperatures and falling leaves, the calendar is changing too! This September and October are filled with fall-themed events around the area, including a fall arts and crafts festival, Oktoberfest, and more!

Below are a few ways you can celebrate fall in Chester County, Delaware County, Greater Wilmington DE and Southeastern PA:

Delaware Saengerbund Oktoberfest
September 15-17, 2017
Friday 5 PM to 11 PM; Saturday 12 PM to 11 PM; Sunday 12 PM to 6 PM

Friday night's parade marks the beginning of the three-day festival celebrating all things German food and culture! The parade will feature the Muenchner Kindl, or Munich Child, a symbol of the city of Munich, which will lead the march. Food for the festival will span everything from grilled Bratwurst and Weisswuurst or veal sausage, to pretzels and Rollmops or marinated herring with rye bread. You can also enjoy potato salad and sauerkraut made by the the Ladies organization in the Delaware Saengerbund kitchen. 

Art & Craft Fall Festival
September 30, 2017; 11 AM to 5 PM
Woodside Farm Creamery

This FREE fall festival will feature arts and crafts from local artists, including original paintings, prints and more. Meet the artists and stroll around, enjoy a free sample of Woodside's newest ice cream flavor, and take home some of their homemade fudge, farm fresh cheeses or one of the farm-grown mums or pumpkins for your entryway! There will be free parking and activities for the kids like pumpkin painting and scarecrow making!

Autumn Leaf Train Ride to Hockessin

It's a beautiful time of year in Delaware and Pennsylvania, so why not take it all in with a special train ride? Bring a camera and enjoy a trip that follows the entire length of the railroad (17 miles round trip!) to Hockessin where you will spend thirty minutes picking up treats for the train ride back or visiting the local shops.

Mums are a symbol of the fall season and Longwood Gardens has a special festival dedicated to the autumn beauty! Explore the Conservatory filled with thousands of mums, fashioned into orbs, spirals, pagodas and more. This October, the Thousand Bloom Mum will show off more than 1,500 flowers arranged on one single stem and with longer hours, the foliage glows with lanterns on seven specific nights in October. Outdoors, the gardens will also be open for visitors to marvel at the fall colors including the Pumpkin Playground!

You may still be making your way through Thanksgiving leftovers, but it's time to shift your focus to the holiday season ahead. Decking the halls, shopping for gifts, trimming the tree and stringing lights will all likely be on your agenda over the next few weeks, but so will the following Delaware and Pennsylvania events!

Fall Events to Enjoy in Greater Wilmington DE and Southeastern PA

Can you believe fall is just around the corner? September has just begun and before we know it, the leaves will fall and we'll be heading out to pick pumpkins, gather apples, enjoy a hay ride, build a scarecrow and other fall fun themed activities! But if you are looking for something on a larger scale, you don't need to venture much farther than Greater Wilmington DE and Southeastern PA!

109th Arden Fair and Antique Market
September 3, 2016; 10 AM to 6 PM

Over 120 vendors with handmade arts and crafts, in addition to food vendors, a book fair, plant sale, activities and rides for the kids, dancing, live music and more! Admission is free to the fairgrounds and Shady Grove, however there is a small admission to the Antiques Market.

The time is here yet again! Wilmington DE and Southeastern PA will soon celebrate Independence Day on July 4 and there are dozens of fun-filled events and fireworks planned for the community! The KG Home Team has included a sampling below so you can look forward to kicking off your long, holiday weekend the right way!

Town of Elsmere Independence Day CelebrationJuly 2, 2016; Fairgrounds Park in Wilmington DE, Dusk. Join the Town of Elsmere for their annual Fourth of July celebration! The free fireworks show begins at dusk.

Wilmington Blue Rocks vs. Winston-Salem DashJuly 2, 2016; Daniel S. Frawley Stadium in Wilmington DE, 7 PM. It doesn't get much more American than baseball, hot dogs, and patriotic music! This special game will also honor local heroes!

Freedom FestJuly 2, 2016; Nottingham County Park in Nottingham PA, 6 PM to 11 PM. Plan to enjoy an Independence Day weekend concert, food vendors, kids activities, as well as fireworks at dusk. Cost is $10 to attend.

Summer Spectacular at Longwood, Through September 5, 2016; Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square PA, 9 AM to 6 PM. Visit Longwood during all of its summer splendor, including aquatic plants from all over the world, cool shady groves, and miles of trails in the Meadow Garden.

4th of July FireworksJuly 4, 2016; University of Delaware Athletics in Newark DE, 6 PM to 10:30 PM. This free local Fourth of July event will include fun, games, fireworks and more!

Phoenixville Independence Day FireworksJuly 4, 2016; Friendship Field in Phoenixville PA, Dusk.

Tredyffrin Township Annual 4th of July CelebrationJuly 4, 2016; Wilson Farm Park in Chesterbrook PA, 7 PM. Music begins at 7 PM in Wilson Farm Park, continuing on through 9:15 PM, with fireworks at dusk. Free to attend.

Wilmington's 4th of July CelebrationJuly 4, 2016; Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park in Wilmington DE, 2 PM. This free event lasts all afternoon long and celebrates our nation's independence along the Christina River! Enjoy live music, food, wine and craft beer, local vendors, activities for the kids, as well as a fireworks show at the end of the night!

Hockessin 4th of July CelebrationJuly 4, 2016; Old Lancaster Pike in Hockessin DE, 3 PM. This day-long celebration begins at 3 PM with a Fourth of July parade down Old Lancaster Pike, complete with floats, music and more. Also back this year is the 2nd Annual Great American Gut Buster Food Devouring Spectacle by 2 Fat Guys American Grill. The fireworks display begins at dusk and can be seen from all over Hockessin. 

30th Firecracker 5K Run/WalkJuly 4, 2016; Rockford Park in Wilmington DE, 7:30 AM. Start your holiday off with a 5K Run/Walk beginning in Rockford Park and continuing to Greenville, before finishing back in Rockford Park.

Lecture: How to Get a Lush, No-Fuss Garden
When: Every Wednesday through February 25, 2015; 7 PM
Where: Delaware Center for Horticulture, Wilmington DE

Planning a garden is one easy way to start thinking spring and many Wilmington DE homeowners may be looking to do so in order to boost their curb appeal. With this lecture series every Wednesday through February 25, you can learn to garden smart with plants suited to thrive locally in Delaware.

Art on the Town
When: First Friday of every month (excluding January); 5:30 PM to 8 PM
Where: Art galleries, museums, storefronts and studios around Wilmington, DE

Egg Drop Challenge

Becoming an annual attraction in Wilmington, the Egg Drop challenge is a fun event for families! Teams earn points and use them to "purchase" materials for the challenge and protect the team egg. The egg is dropped off the balcony and the team whose egg that makes it through the drop in one piece wins!

Enjoy Wilmington, Delaware with the Riverfront Blues Festival

The blues are coming back to the Wilmington waterfront! The Riverfront Blues Festival is set to return to Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park next weekend. 

According to Delaware Today Magazine, the 3-day music festival weekend planned for this August 1 through the 3rd is the "rockin'est weekend of the year!" Rain or shine, the event is held outdoors on two stages and features some of the best blues musicians around. 

In the past, the Riverfront Blues Festival has included free harmonica lessons and free sessions with guitarist Gary Cogdell, as well as a free children's craft tent and refreshing misting tent available in the park to cool attendees during those dog days of summer. This year's event is expected to be just as successful, with the talents of treasured blues musicians Marcia Ball, James Harman and Tommy Castro gracing the Blues Festival's stages. 

Wilmington residents and visitors alike can also expect to find the following musicians on this year's Blues Festival main stage:

Admission to this Father's Day event is free (with general admission), held at the Delaware Children's Museum this Friday through Sunday. This is a great opportunity for kids to bring Dad out for a day of fun and create a special, one-of-a-kind Father's Day card for him. A chance to celebrate Dad and bonus, enjoy the rest of the museum this weekend!

Retro*Active Performance Art from 1964-1987

Performance art was made popular in the mid 1960's and has grown over the past few decades to include music, theater, technology, dance and most importantly, audience participation. This is an interactive event that goes hand-in-hand with the Museum's "Performance Now" showing. This historical view of performance art will be available nearly all day Saturday and involves artists like Chris Burden, Dan Graham, Joan Jonas, Paul McCarthy, Yoko Ono, and Carolee Schneemann to really showcase the movement.

Little Shop of Horrors

Kick off Father's Day weekend early with a performance of Little Shop of Horrors by the Wilmington Drama League. The showing includes three musical female narrators, star-crossed lovers, and a crazy florist for one fun-filled evening. Little Shop of Horrors put on by this great local group is just the entertainment you need to segue into a relaxing weekend.
